I obtained the special tool that is needed to remove the fan assembly from the large nut and turned the nut counter-clockwise as instructed by the Haynes manual. I have been unable to get the fan assembly off. What is the trick?

Listen, as far as I'm concerned, those tools are junk. What works for me is to get a (35mm or 36mm can't remember which) open end wrench, place it on the nut, then take a dead blow hammer and smack it. It will take about 5 good smacks, but the nut will come loose.

Let me know if this helps. And yes I realize it sounds primative, but it works for me, and I've done several.
