My Dodge Dakota egine will be louder than normal and will shift a little late when the engine is cold or after a rainy day. But after driving for about 5 miles, the truck drives like its new again. What could the problem be?

As far as the sound, you may be hearing the fan. It has a clutch that responds to temp and should spin faster when it gets hot. However, most of them start loud and then quiet down after being driven a short distance.

As far as the transmission, chances are you have a shift solenoid going bad. Don't worry. It isn't an expensive part and doesn't require a rebuild. If it gets really bad, it should set the check engine light. Do you notice that when it is reving, if you take your foot off the gas, it will shift?

Yes when I take my foot off of the gas it does shift, so it looks like you are right. I will have to get the shift solenoid replaced. Thank you for your response.

You are welcome. Just have you solenoids checked before they are replaced to confirm.

Let me know if you have other questions.
