1997 Dodge Dakota Fuel Pressure

Thanks for the donation. Did you check voltage circuits at the fuel pump relay? Did you check applicable fuses, use a testlite, you need to check for voltage, also. You might be able to check for mil codes without any special tools, I'd have to check. Voltage to the coil side of relay, goes hot with the key in the crank position. Voltage to the load/switch side of relay, is hot all the time. You should be able to access some codes, by cycling the ignition switch. You turn key just till the dash lites come, no further. Cycle the key, on--off, 0n--off, 0n, then the mil starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes. Your looking for two digit codes. Also, if you have a digital odometer, the code may show-up there.

Checked voltage at fuel pump relay with testlight:
Voltage to load/switch=hot
Voltage to coil side=hot (bulb on testlight was dim though?)
Replaced fuel pump relay-no additional fuses found-checked fuse box inside cab and under hood.
No codes displayed-tried on/off procedure several times.

Lite blue/orange= voltage for coil side?

red/white=voltage for load side?

On the coil side, both wires would be hot if no ground, the other wire on the coil side is ground, grounded by pcm. Do have spark at the plugs, engine cranking?

Yes on voltage corresponding to correct wires.
Yes on spark at the plugs.
Engine cranks but does not turn over.
Truck was running fine-drove to store-returned to start vehicle-cranked did not turn over-left vehicle-returned in aprox 20 mins-attempted to start again-cranked engine several times while depressing gas pedal-started-obvious smell of gasoline after starting-drove vehicle home-has not started since.

Hi, in part of your post, you say no fuel pressure, in another part, you say, you can smell gas?? I'd have to use a gage and check fuel pressure. Some of the national brand autostores used to loan a fuel pressure gage, if you don't have one. You can check for voltage and ground at the proper terminals at the fuel pump connector, engine cranking. If that checks out and no fuel pressure, I suspect the pump.

Yes, I smelled gas after the truck intitially had the problem-has not started since. I have already used a fuel pressure guage-no pressure.

You can check proper terminals at the fuel pump connector, engine cranking. Dark green wire with black tracer is voltage, black wire is ground. If you have good voltage and ground, and no pump action, I suspect the pump.
