can i replace the a/c clutch bearing without pumping the system down? thank you all in advanced.

Yes. The finest compressor in the automotive business is almost completely serviceable, but the tools are needed.
I would be glad to walk you through it, it's not difficult, but you'll need to remove the belt, and clutch, as the front plate comes with bearing.
If you explain the noise and clearance you have I can give you instructions.
