How do you remove a transfer case from the 4x4 extended cab version, which has a welded-in-place crossmember beneath it? Must the transmission be removed with it, or is there some tricky way to pull it out without removing the tranny too? Thank you.

Hey Raymundo,

You can removed mine without removing the transmission (5 SPD) or the cross member, you just need to undo the transmission mount and jack the transmission up into the truck as high as it will go. I started by removing the console inside the cab. This requires removing the transmission shift lever. I then removed the front and rear drive shaft and the transfer case shift lever. It has been several years since I did this so I don't remember if there were any electrical connections on the transfer case but if there are of course disconnect them also. Then remove the bolts that secure the transfer case to the rear of the transmission. With the bolts removed the transfer case should slide back and drop down. As I recall, the first time I did this it was a difficult chore but the second time it was easier. Hope this helps.

Please let us know happens so it will help others.

Best, Ken
