Today my speedometer began acting crazy. Below 35 mph the needle bounces from 0 to 125, from 35 to 45 mph it will bounce up to around 85. Above 55 mph it bounes within about 5 mph of actual speed. I can hear a clacking noise behind the speedometer and also the odometer and tripmeter quit working. Any ideas what's going on and where to start? Thank you.

It could be the speedo itself that has gone bad. However, remove the cable from the rear and try to lubericate it with something like WD40 to see if that helps.

Let me know.

Thanks for replying Joe. I"ll try what you suggested. The speedometer is now stuck at 40 mph., but the odometer started working, so that's a plus.
To top things off, today my heater core started leaking fluid all over my floorboard. Man I love my life!
Thanks again,
Kelly

Kelly:
I have the same truck with the V6 5 speed. It has 220K on it and I plan to make it to 300K before I give it to someone for free. It has been a good vehicle, but a lot of little stupid problems like you're dealing with. If you need help with the heater core, let me know. If you don't have AC, it isn't bad to replace. WIth AC is a little of a pain. Also, let me know about the speedo. I have a new concern that it is stuck at 40mph. You may need to take it apart, clean it and lube it up. Let me know if you need help.

Thanks for the positive feedback, and you're right... life can be a pain, but you can always get me if you need questions answered for your truck.

Take care, I look forward to hearing from you, and thanks for using 2carpros.com.
