Electrical problem
1987 Dodge Dakota 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic
My son took off the alternator to rebuild it. He then put it back on, but put the wires on incorrectly and something started smoking. He then put the wires on correctly. Next, he bought a voltage regulator at a parts store and put that in. Now the multi meter is reading 18 volts output. What could possibly be wrong?
Is it a problem with the wires needing to be replaced? Is it a problem with a fusible link?
He just had the alternator tested at a parts store and it tested fine. It does have one bushing on the back that is kind of wobbly, but it was tested at the auto parts store with those original bushings in place.
I'm guessing that this will not be answered any time soon after noticing that you REALLY WANT TO BE PAID TO HELP PEOPLE, so this is pretty much a BIG waste of my time. Botta get vehicle working to get to the job to stay alive. No time to screw around.
