I have been (slowly) fixing up my '89 Colt--the latest repair has been the rear light cards & fuses... but now my brake lights come on -- whenever they feel like it. I need to replace the switch, but my husband says it's a chore that should go to a "real mechanic".

Is it possible for me to do it instead? How?

The 1989 has a hard rubber gasket/spacer that fits between the pedal and the switch. I yanked the old, corroded spacer and put in a new (since it's near impossible to get a wrench into that space in this car) and the lights work fine now.

This spacer does not exist in most year models--only the 89-90's.
