When turning steering wheel while stopped, front end shudders with loud shuddering sound. When I accelerate, the shudder stops.
Otherwise, when turning steering wheel it makes a noise; not quite a grinding or a squeaking sound but a loud sound as I turn the wheel either way.

A couple of things to check. First, when was the last time the belt was replaced?
Then if all maintenance has been done ,have you tried putting some Lucas power steering treatment in the reservoir?
