Air Conditioning problem
2003 Dodge Caravan 6 cyl Automatic 145000 miles

When the air conditioner is turned on, it works fine. However as soon as you turn the A/C (conditioned air or vent) control panel to off, the defroster comes on and will not turn off without pulling the fuse or turning the van off.

Checking the available relays for the system, it looks like the radiator cooling fan motor relay, a/c compressor control relay, and an a/c compressor relay. So I am a bit preplexed as to which I should be replacing. Also, maybe unrelated, but the van has overheated once and is apparently losing coolant. I was thinking that it is probably unrelated and probably a leaking hose or water pump. Thank you so much for your help thus far.

Update for the overheating, a leaky water pump was found as the culprit. Are all of the relays the same and should marking and swapping the relays tell you which is no good?
