2001 Dodge Caravan wiring harness

The wiring harness on our Grand Caravan was damaged by battery acid some time ago. The mechanic has "fixed" it by shortening the wire that connects to the battery but not he is not able to do that. I have tried to get an estimate online but it's impossible since replacing the wiring harness is not offered on most sites. I don't know whether to replace it - the mechanic says $2,000 for parts and labor or just get rid of the van. I just replaced the brakes so I was hoping to drive it a bit more. Can you give me a fair estimate so I will know if $2000 is legitimate. Thank you.

whats the harnass for? because it sounds quite rediculous. Im thinking not even half that. depending on what it is. some of these mechanics are maggots, and will try to get over on someone any chance they get. secondly, a dealer will always charge whey more than a regular shop, so dont use a dealer for repairs. and thirdly go to several other places to get second and third opinions.

I too have a '01 Caravan and just had similar problem all instruments and headlights would work but no start, battery was replaced and it was noticed that acid had leaked onto the wiring harness [located directly below the battery box] {poor design choice by Chrysler}the shop which replaced the battery under warranty refered to dealer.
Dealer was able to cut and splice/solder the wires tape and all components were back in working order.
However at a cost of $520.00 4 hours at $130.00
