crack in filler tube and likely reason for large leak code?

Been working w/repair shop on large, small leak. Gas Cap and small cannister "filter" replaced. 2.5 month process w/check engine light continuing to come on within 2 days of shop working on car. Charcoal Cannister replaced - check engine light came back on within 6 hours of picking up vehicle. Took to another shop who visually showed me crack in filler tube and likely reason for large leak code. Took to another shop who said same and that this should have been looked @ first prior to changing cannisters. Is that the case? Much time spent trying to remedy the problem. Please advise.

Hello,

The purpose of Emission control systems or EVAP is to prevent pollution by limiting the amount of un burnt gases goes to the atmosphere.
Any time there is a leak is the EVAP system, those gases will escape the system.
Any visible crack in the tubing can create a 'large' leak in the EVAP system. If the gas tank does not stay sealed/pressurized it will trigger the check engine light.

So the best option when you have a crack in the fuel filler tubing is to replace it. That will seal the system. Then you can clear the code and the engine light should not come back on given there are no more leaks.
