When I get into my van and start it, put it into reverse, back out and then shift into Drive, it will not engage in drive sometimes. I shift back and forth and eventually it will engage. Also I will not engage in drive after I have stopped at a stop sign or stop light. I sat in traffic the other day for a minute trying to get it to engage into drive. Do you know how long a minute is really? What could be causing it not to engage in thses situations?

Hi jglascoe,

Thank you for the donation.

What are the engine and transmissnion type?

Delayed Engagement From Neutral To Drive

Possible cause: aerated fluid, damaged clutch seals, engine idle speed too low, faulty oil pump, hydraulic pressures too low, incorrect shift linkage or cable adjustment, low fluid level, restricted oil filter, valve body malfunction or leakage, worn or broken reaction shaft support seal rings, worn or damaged accumulator seal rings, input shaft seal rings or worn or faulty underdrive clutch.

Seems the transmissin could be failing or it has a fault with the valve body.
