If you cannot turn the key far enough you'll have to crawl inside and remove the plastic trim to expose the lock mechanism,a key cylinder and a latch mechanism. and a long pin connects them. The pin connects the cylinder to the latch, the latch in some cases can be adjusted by loosening a hex screw on it and moving the pin slide. Right where the pin connects to the latch. If not you may have to replace it, you'll see how it just unbolts. You may use the old key cylinder, just the latch assembly may need replacement.
