Transmission problem
1999 Dodge Caravan 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Hi, I need to replace my transmission oil pan because there is a dent in it. I found a used one at a salvage yard. It is exactly the same as the old one except for 2 things. First, when I pulled it from the car in the salvage yard, I found a small magnet on the inside of the pan. About the same diameter as a quarter. Is that supposed to be there? It looked as if its purpose was to collect stray particles of metal. And the other thing is there is a very small red plastic plug (push type, not screw type) at the bottom of the pan. I've seen it on other vehicles. Does it matter that my old pan didn't have one? Thanks.

Hi
Magnet suppoed to be there and does as you suspected. The red cap thing is placed in hole for dip stick at assembly. When installed and dip stick housing installed it pushes cap into pan. First fluid change and it is thrown out. TIP DO NOT use any sealent on pan gasket.
Hope this helps
Thanks for donate
