Transmission problem
1999 Dodge Caravan 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

We have a 1999 Dodge Caravan that is in need of a replacement transmission. We have found a 1997 Caravan and a 1995 Plymouth van. Can you tell us the range of years that the transmissions can be interchanged and if the Plymouth transmissions will work?

The best thing you could do is get the VIN number off the van along with the transaxle and its computer's part numbers also. You can use just the VIN number on the dash pad or you can write the transaxle number down by looking on top of it, you'll see a white decal with a large UPC code, the 8 digit part number id found there and also on the case near the left side right where the oil pan mounts up, get a rag to wipe it down and with a flashlight you'll see the 8-digit number there also. The computer(if it is an overdrive unit) is found right on the computer face where the connector plugs in. Then you'll know what you have in it. A call to any dealer will let you know the number of each unit that will fit. It doesn't matter whether its a Plymouth or Dodge, its the engine size and electronics you need to match up.Good luck to you.And it is best to clean out the cooling system for the transmission also and check it for blockage.
