I have a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan with 260k miles on it. For the last 2 months, I have had problems with the chrging system. I replaced the battery and the alternator in June. The Alternators start making a bearing squeaking type sound shortly after replacing the alternator. I tried another alternator from the same company and it too started the squeaking and when I idle with air and headlights, the battery light will come on and if I don't shut things off, it will not charge.
So yesterday, I got a new alternator manufactured by Bosch (All Factory New, not rebuilt). Immediately, the batery light was lit, the headlights and dome lights are super bright. I tested the output at 1500 RPM, it is 16.7 volts. I checked for AC Bleed and there is no AC Voltage detected with meter. Also, it sounds like the same squeak is coming from this new alternator.
Any suggestions? It seems like a regulation issue, but I do not have funds for a PCM. I am exchanging alternator under warranty for another new Bosch. I will test voltage right away. I don't look for anything to change. I don't want to burn up my electrical system.
