1997 Dodge Caravan traction control

Traction control is not like locking a hub on a 4x4 truck. It just senses the lost of traction and slows down wheel speed to regain traction.. So you couldnt spin the tires in the snow with traction control on. Nor could you lock up the tires in the snow with ABS.

--When traction control senses 1 or more wheels spinning, the brakes are applied to the wheel or wheels that are spinning to slow down to get traction. ABS kicks in when it senses wheels that are locked up from applying the brakes. ABS then releases some brake pressure from the locked up wheels to get them moving just enough so they dont skid- so you get maximum braking, and not just skidding.

The Traction control and the ABS are linked together. The ABS sensors are also used for the traction control system. The way ABS works is the exact opposite for how traction control works. Very Simple.

Most likely you have a bad ABS sensor. Bring to a shop or somewhere where they have a good scanner that scans ABS codes.

99% of the time its an ABS sensor, thats located near wheel/axle/hub. Every wheel has one. The ABS and Traction Control modules could go bad, but its not common.

Once the ABS sensor is replaced, the ABS light will go off once it senses the correct wheel speed.
