I was driving and when I turned onto the highway and started accelerating there was a slight poof and it turned off? If I would have had the radio on I would not have heard the poof. It still cranks but will not turn over. Could this be the fuel pump or timing belt? What do you think the cost range would be to have either of these replaced? I will have to take it to a mechanic. Please help

There are a couple things I need you to check. You can do it yourself.

First fuel pump pressure. Here is a how to:

Next, I need to know if you are getting spark to the engine. Here is a how to:

Most parts stores will lend you the tools needed to check these. Let me know what you find. We should be able to fix it without you taking it to a shop.
