Hey I have a 1996 Dodge Caravan, and I just replaced both rear shocks and they are in perfectly and correctly, yet I noticed when I drive it's fine except when I hit bumps, I hear a really loud noise from the rear left, about the proximity where the shock absorber is. It is a bang, sort of twanging sound, and I have checked everything and it is all fine by appearance, what could be wrong?

Make sure you tightened them real good, especially the uppermounting, if it made no noise before that is probably it. If the noise was there before, make sure the springs are lubricated and tight. Use spray silicone where rubber meets steel anywhere, ok?

Not to worry, found out what the problem was. It was actually the exhaust hangers; they're falling apart so they wiggle a lot and so when I hit really hard bumps the exhaust will bang against the things that hold them up. Gonna replace them.

Nope! It wasn't the exhaust hangers. It had nothing to do with the exhaust system at all. I had actually gotten the wrong type of shock absorbers so they weren't even doing what they were supposed to, and the noise was the car bottoming out every time I hit those bumps. Silly me!
