Hi -

My overhead console displays, among other things the outside. At least it should - it shows 0 all the time. I want to locate the element that measures the temperature to see if it needs replacing. If it is missing, what part number should I be looking to purchase?

the ambient temperature sensor is the sensor that provides that information. the part number you need is OEM Number: 4685606 and the sensor will be located behind bottom of front fascia, on radiator support.
