My Gas sensor is not reading on my dash. what I'm wondering is what am I in for if I need to change out the sensor?

Are you refering to the float rheostat in the tank? If so, I believe it is an integral part of the fuel pump. You will need to drop the tank to access it. If the tank straps are not too rusted, it shouldn't be too hard of a job.
