1990 Dodge Caravan Transmission Bolt size

Hello, Ok, when was last tranny service? Your New Yorker has 2 sensors one is an Input Speed Sensor and the other is an Output Speed Sensor. To replace these to sensor will cost less than $50. Could fix your problem. I have found these sensor are the cause in about 80% of the vehicles I have worked on. There is also a Shift Solenoid Pack. Of course this will cost more.

I am not a fan of certain parts from a pick and pull or any salvage yard that doesn't pull and test the part. They cannot guarrantee the part works and if it doesn't you in most cases cannot get your money back. They just let you keep pulling till you get one that works or they run out and then you are out that money. It may cost more but is worth doing an internet search for tranny's and look for used and tested ones. I do not remember the name of a salvage yard I used about 2 years ago but they pull and test the trannies. And it is still on the road with no problems.

so this transmission is called a604? how could I find out without looking for the tag on the transmission itself?

I already know that the transmissions is interchangeable with caravan town and country dynasty imperial 3.3 90 year. I checked on the doors of alot of caravans at a junk yard and some of them had the day 7-x-89 on the door I heard the dates rollover to the next year is this true, were that mentioned date would indicate year 90 modem caravan?

Ok, No problem with the interchange, and as far as the year I believe this one was used in 89 - 95.

However, I am just trying to save you some money if possible. Changing out a transaxle can be a pain. there is a lot more to it than just taking the tranny bolts out.

Ok, I am pretty sure the tranny is a Chrysler A604-FWD, 4 Speed, Automatic Transaxle which is Also known as the 40TE; 41TE; 41AE.

Picture 1 is the filter for it so if you take a look at the tranny pan and count the bolts (should be 14) and notice the design and if it matches up then it's a A604.

Pics 2 and 3 are of the A604 Transaxle...

Received the input out put sensors today. Now waiting for the towbar I got from harbor freight probably monday I will get that, then I can move the car to my garage!! and let the fun begin.

got the tow bar, moved the car. Got the sensors in and output speed sensors, I will order the solenoid tomorrow.
Need to go buy some atf+4 (I read it is important :))

Sorry for delay, Been very busy with Repair work and my full time job as an EMT , been to run down at night to do much of anything except sleep.

Anyway, I have check all my resources and I am not sure of the Plastic piece he is speaking of.

Yes ATF +4 is very important for Chrysler vehicles.

Go ahead and change out the 2 sensors and wait on the installation of the Solenoid Pack. See if the sensor fix it first.

Installed the two sensors today and noiced that on the input sensor the connector was showing wire on both and was twisted like in a way the wires could touch and the base of the connector, so I think cutting and retaping will not work. Junk yard it is. Are these connectors sold DORMAN brand? I'd hate to make the trip to the junkyard and well get junk or being able to buy them for a cheap price new. Ordering the solenoid pack tomorrow.. from new york so maybe a week before I see that if I am lucky. Fuel pump for the chyrsler is was paid for on the 07/23 and still hasn't been received by me coming from LA and I am like 200 miles away. So another bummer.

got the car back and but now lost the keys. So I found out how to hotwire the car and unlock the steering lock.

now fuel filter in clogged. and the saga continue. 500.00 takes it as of now in coachella, ca

Sorry, not sure how missed your last 2 posts.

Anyway, as far as the harness for the sensor you can check your local parts stores, and the dealer it shouldn't cost that much.

this car is on ebay for 299.99 were did I get 500 from? will throw in a new sealed fuel pump and a new expansion valve if you mention this thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
