[quote:6fba9006fc="demillo69"]Engine Mechanical problem
1999 Dodge Avenger 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 200,00 miles
My car shut down on the freeway. My mechanic said that it needs a distributor. The net cost for him to do the job is $699.00. I know I can buy a rebuilt distributor for $325.00. So why is the cost so high? Another auto shop quoted me $640.00, still high. Therefore, I asked my first mechanic why so high and the answer was that a new distributor would cost over a thousand dollars, but that is not a sensible answer. Is this job labor intense? Might it be the coil inside the distributor? Why did he physically have to decide that he thinks it is the distributor, may he just check the computer code. P.S. he did say that my car is not getting any spark and that after he replaces the distributor that more damage may have been caused when the car stopped running but he will not know until he replaces the distributor.[/quote:6fba9006fc]
Hello,
It could be the Control Module that is mounted in the distributor causing your No Spark. It could also be the Crank Angle Sensor.
Did or is your Check or Service Engine light on? If so check with your local auto parts store and see if they rent code readers. If not try your local rental store.
You will need to pull codes this will help is find problem.
If you want a few ideas of what can cause your problem and some testing you may be able to do check out the site below.
