my axle in my avenger just recently broke. It was easy getting to the axle until we had to take the old one out we spent 3 hours pulling, tugging, prying, and everything to get the axle out of the transmmission. we heard it should just come out and if it doesnt a pry bar would get it out after a times prying it out so can someone please help us out
thanks

Hi, its no easy thing because inside the differential case the inner shafts have a small ring that fits into a groove on the axle, the prying is more of a learned experience. If you get a very large prybar and wedge it just right it will pop out but usually disfigure the small ring clip, it can be replaced or reshaped using a vise, this goes for either side. The only other thing to do is to remove the inspection cover and pry it out from inside. I hope this helps you in some small way, it was rare to have either axle break completely but I have removed dozens and of course getting those inner ends was a bear. I don't remember anything holding them in except for that small retainer ring. They have been left out I am sure but you cannot just leave it in if it comes out. With no retainer, yet has a slot for one at the very inner end. Unless someone was into it before, the axle seal usually always needed to be replaced also, if it seems undamaged it should be ok. I recommend replacing the axle seals also. ok
