You will never solve a running problem on a Chrysler product by changing the fuel filter.

How do you know it's not getting fuel? If you looked for spray from the injector and found none, did you stop there or did you check for spark too?

If both are missing, suspect a defective pickup assembly, (Hall effect switch), under the rotor in the distributor. Common failure item and an easy, inexpensive fix.

fuel pump, not filter. A bit of a hassle if that was one if the models that had the fuel pump inside the tank. Need a lift, so you can drop and drain the tank to get at the pump. If, the pump is in-line, under the hood, then it's easy 10 minutes of labor.

When Chrysler fuel pumps fail, they almost always fail to start up, leaving you sitting in the driveway or parking lot. It is extremely rare for one to stop while the engine is running. GM pumps, on the other hand, usually start up, and typical fail during the drive cycle, leaving you sitting on the side of the road. That's just the nature of the two beasts.

No domestic manufacturer used an inline electric fuel pump outside the gas tank. Mechanical fuel pumps on the engine usually spring a leak. They don't suddenly stop supplying gas to the carburetor. This post is over eight years old. I assume the problem has been solved by now! Too bad the solution was never posted for the benefit of the rest of us.
