P0340 code?

Working on my mother in laws car. Gave p0340 code for camshaft position sensor. There is no standalone part for that as its integrated with the distributor. Replaced the distributor. Did not realize until I tried to start the car that the two pronged connector that plugs into the distributor had the wires snap off right at the back of the plug as I was installing the new distributor. Cannot seem to find the right plug. I went to a junkyard and found one off a 1993 2.2 that will fit. Problem is, the wires are not the same color as the 1996. Therefore I do not know which wire connects to which. I pulled the old plug apart hoping to find a small amount of wire sleeve that would tell me what color went where. Can anyone help?

What would happen if the wires were backward? New distributor installed, power through the coil wire but no spark at plugs. Plug wires recently done.

Diagnostics for no spark.

Make sure the distributor is turning. That is first.

SPARK TEST
- Disconnect the high-tension cord (from the ignition coil) from the distributor cap.
- Hold the end approx. 12.5 mm (0.50 in.) from the body ground.
- See if spark occurs while engine is being cranked.
Notice: To prevent gasoline from being injected from injectors during this test, crank the engine for no more than five to ten seconds at time.
- If the spark does not occur, perform the following test:

Can you please give me an idea on what might be the problem with my car, given this code.

I was driving and the "Water Light" came and the car turned off. After, I tried to turn it back on, it would not start. The way it sounded, it seemed like the "Starter" was not igniting. Could it be that I need to replace the starter or would it be something else?

If the starter was not cranking, it can cause the code so you would have to rectify this first.
