Distributor swap

Own the truck listed above, swapped a motor from a 1990 b2000, can I use the electronic distributor on the motor, or do I have to use my old-points style distributor?

Hi,

I looked through the schematics and they appear different. My schematics are very limited because of the model year. However, in general, the system (electronic ignition) usually is controlled by an ignition control module. If the vehicle (1987) didn't have the same setup, I don't see how it would work unless you are using everything from the 1990.

The distributor itself should fit. However, my concern is this. Are the electronics there to make it function properly.

If my 87 is wired to suit old points type dizzy and we put that on, then it should work then? We are having a go tonight...
Otherwise, it's to an auto sparky.

If it's wired for points and that is what you use, it should be fine. As far as the electronic system, that is where the problems may start.
