dimmer switch

I have a 97 and 00 Explorer. The 00 has a detent on the dimmer switch and the 97 does not. Can I switch the switches and put the one with the detent in the 97 ? Will it still work the same ?

don't think so check with a an auto parts they will h ave years of usage
