died while driving

alright so i just got this vehicle a few days ago i do not know to much about 318s or a whole lot about Dodge in general. but it was getting chatty (ticky) and the oil was black so i thought well might as well get an oil change. and the truck was driving fine prior to all of this. so i go and get a oil change went well and they poured water around the oil filter because i guess there was a good amount of oil around it when it was taken off spoiled. so i thought nothing of it. i leave and get on the highway and i drove maybe a mile after getting the oil change. and i stepped on the gas a bit while on the highway and it just died on me. i swapped batteries thinking maybe it was the alternator because with the other it would not crank. and with the newer battery it cranked a little but would not start. so i am thinking possibly the alternator but i did notice it was still a little (not near as bad) ticking but maybe the alternator? i cannot figure it out have not gotten to look everything over yet and i need some advice. thank you.
