The weather is starting to get hot now. Whenever i start my car, I usually start my A/C. Nothing usually happens for about 5 to 8 minutes, then cold air starts blowing into the car. If I then stop somewhere just for about 10 to 15 minutes, when I get back to the car and start running the A/C, it still doesn't start right away but waits for 5 to 8 minutes before starting. What could be wrong and how can I fix it?

Good morning,

I would have the system recovered, evacuated of all moisture and air, and recharged. This sounds like the pressures take too long to reach optimum efficiency for the cooling to start. The high pressure needs to reach 2 times ambient temperature and the low side needs to be at 25-30 pounds rock solid.

Thank you very much. I will try and do the evacuation and recharging. I forgot to add that when I start the car in the morning, there is always water coming down from the undercarriage on the passenger side just behind the engine, close to the firewall. I had ascribed this to condensate from the A/C, then it occurred to me that it happens when I back out of the garage first thing in the morning even when I haven't driven the car or used A/C. Does this provide any further clues as to what might be wrong? Thank you.

Not really. Do the evacuate and charge first.

Is it clear water? It could be left over water in the heater case.

I think it is residual water from the AC when it was running.

I do not see an issue with it at all.

Sorry for being so late in getting back on this site. Had to attend to some other personal issues. I got the equipment to evacuate the A/C system and refill with refrigerant. Unfortunately, I could not find any shop that will evacuate the refrigerant from the car at a lower price than complete refill. So I took to a shop to do the evacuation of refrigerant and also to refill it. In doing the diagnostics before charging with refrigerant, they found out that the Blower Motor Relay was faulty and it was replaced and new refrigerant charged. The A/C now works great. No more delays.
