The diagrams were helpful, thanks. mission accomplished! new heater core and blower motor (old blower was noisy fixed the problems. Heater was not working after we replaced leaking head gasket just 3 weeks ago (i had someone else do the engine work. I'm slow but eventually effective). The car was overheating again and no heat inside the car which doesn't make sense- close to an oxymoronic situation or hot engine no damn heat inside the car.
But diagnosed by process of elimination: head gasket replaced, before that thermostat and temperature sensor replaced a couple months ago. a year ago new water pump.
I was a bit intimidated by the scope of replacing heater core job. My mechanic friend quoted this job calls for 10 labor hours for this car. so right then I knew it would take me 20. I'm not any automotive whiz but know my around.. The biggest mistake I made was not taking enough pictures during disassembly or just numbering pieces in the order they go back on. I just wanted to get the darn heater core out and focused on that!
Pretty soon I had the dash disassembled the core out and a bunch of dash parts covering the back seat. New core went in fairly easily getting to the clamps was difficult. Most of the stuff to put back in is obvious; radio, climate control module, under dash covers, etc. I got confused by the 2 covers that wrap the heater core and the diagrams helped there. After that It took time and patience to git er done. A small victory for me. Thanks for your help!
