Cylinder two no compression

I was driving and my car started losing power so I stopped and once I did that it shut off. I noticed the check engine light was on. I tried to start would start but shut off right away.. Had it towed to a garage I had this happen to me before so I figured what it was after checking myself.. Long story short it was misfire in 2 and 5.. He said cylinder 2 has no compression and my spark plug was beat up.. He said I need a new engine.. Do I need a new engine?? Could their be a quick fix just to last me a little longer?

Unfortunately, if the spark plug has been smashed due to the piston hitting it and it now has no compression then most likely there is also valve damage which is why it has no compression. If this is the case then it does need an engine or at least all these components replaced which would be an engine rebuild.

Unfortunately this is a nearly impossible question to answer without know what it needs. If it is just a cylinder head and one piston it could be around $2,000.00 but with over 150,000 miles once you tear it down, I am sure you would find more. Which is normally why most people don't do this anymore unless it is their own vehicle and you don't have to pay labor.

Sorry I can't give a clear answer but without looking at the parts when it is torn apart there is just no way to know.

Plus just doing a quick search online showed many options on rebuilt engines for less then $2,500.00. Clearly this doesn't include installation but if it comes with a warranty, this is what I would be looking at doing.
