CVT transmission slipping?

I am pretty sure the CVT transmission is slipping a little around 40-45 MPH I had a mechanic tell me this is the problem and there is not much to do as these types of transmissions go bad. I was wondering if it would be worth changing the fluid and filter to maybe extend the life of transmission a little longer.

Sorry to say it but once a CVT starts to fail they are pretty much done. The slippage in them isn't due to bad fluid, instead it is due to the belt and sheaves having wear in them that can only be corrected by replacing the parts. The problem is that the CVTs are not really rebuildable outside the factory that builds them in the first place. The "repair" is to remove the bad unit, install the replacement unit and ship the bad one back to JATCO to be rebuilt for the next swap. I'm shocked that yours made it to 102,000, most fail around the 60,000 point.

Thanks. It doesn't slip much yet and I was wondering if you would have any idea how long before it quits all together? I just want to drive it as long as I can until I get rid of it.

Hard to say. Generally, they start slipping and get worse as the wear gets worse. Or they start slipping and just fail when the chain starts to come apart.
