CV SHAFT SNAPPED IN TWO

BACKED THE CAR OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, PUT IT IN DRIVE, DROVE A VERY SHORT DISTANCE AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE. PULLED OVER, PUT CAR IN PARK, STILL MAKING NOISE, SHUT ENGINE OFF. HAD IT TOWED BACK TO MY DRIVEWAY. MECHANIC LOOKED AT IT, NEVER SAW ANYTHING LIKE IT BEFORE. THE FORGED STEEL CV SHAFT WAS SNAPPED IN TWO. HONDA WON'T HELP ME. THEY SAID IT COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY A POTHOLE. I DON'T THINK SO.

Potholes don't cause CV shafts to snap. If Honda give this as the reason, they must have lost their brains somewhere.

The CV shaft is one of the strongest component used in the vehicle and there is no way it can or should break off unless due to impact damages which is seldom as the impact has to be of very high velocity and force to break it.

If the area where it breaks off is neat without signs of bending forces, it should be due to fatigue as a result of flaw in the material.

Your vehicle is 10 years old, have the shaft replaced and get on with life.
