CV axle stuck

Good morning.

Releasing the inner joint from the transmission can be tough.

CAUTION:
1. Use a pry bar not to damage the joint.
2. If you pull the driveshaft by excessive force, the components inside the pint kit can be displaced which might cause the boot to be torn and the bearing to be damaged.
3. Plug the transaxle case opening with an oil seal cap in order to avoid contamination.
4. Support the driveshaft properly.
5. Replace the retainer ring each time the driveshaft is removed from the transaxle case.
6. While loosening the driveshaft nut, do not allow vehicle weight to be concentrated on the wheel bearing. If the vehicle moves, hold the wheel bearing using the special tool (0951721500).

You may have to put some pressure on it to get it to release.

So I tried to send a picture, but the one you sent is not a match. I have the vehicle on stands, drivers side replaced already. It is an all wheel drive not 4x4 does that help? 3.5l 6 cylinder. I removed the entire axle from the second boot out to the tire (all that's left is the metal connected to the shaft going into the transmission).

The inner snap ring on the inner joint is being stubborn.

You need to pry, which I see you have, between the axle and the transmission. You may need a bigger pry bar.

Tried bigger bar. Also tried driving wedges between axle and housing. Nothing worked.

Do you have access to an air hammer? Sometimes the shock of an air hammer will release the clip.

You will need a portable compressor and an air hammer with a punch in the end.

So I got it out finally, the new one slides in easy but doesn't catch on the clip so it slides right back off.

Okay, then the C clip will have to be replaced.

If it does not lock onto the clip, the axle will keep coming out causing the car not to move.

It most likely got damaged from the removal.

Do you know the part number of that clip and where I can get one?

You would need to go to the dealer parts department for the clip.

I do not see a part number anywhere for it. I would take the old one over to the parts department for them to match up. They may be able to give you one off another axle.

I tried the dealer and after a lot of back and forth with them trying to decide which clip I was referring to (I even texted pictures of the transaxle) they finally claimed they knew which clip I needed and that it was only sold in a kit which is $400.00 and unavailable to them.. I was told aftermarket was my only avenue. Hence why I asked if you knew the number. Also, should that seal on the transaxle press in tight or does it just stay in place once the axle is fixed in place with the clip? It fits nicely over the CV axle, but no super tight if the axle is removed and I just place it on the transaxle housing by itself.

The seal is a press fit into the transaxle assembly itself.

It should fit tight over the axle shaft itself.

As far as the part number, I could not find it and neither did the dealer. It must be part of the output shaft of the transaxle.

I would visit a transmission shop and explain the issue to them and tell them what you need. They remove and install the axles all the time and may have the clips there for you to replace.
