Hello, I am experiencing a CV axle and axle disconnect housing failure. The bearings in the disconnect are worn and the axle seems to be moving freely causing noise and affecting the drive ability. I have taken it to a shop, and they suggested taking it to a transmission shop. I have done repairs in the past, such as replacing the front-end suspension, cv axles, etc., however I have not worked on the axle disconnect. It looks pretty straightforward, but I need a second opinion before tackling the job or taking it to a transmission shop.

Thanks for the video, it helps. Unfortunately, the front differential has a problem and will need to be disassembled and repaired, normally the CV axle will pull out of the differential hub because it is held in by a C clip. You can use a large pry bar to wedge it out of there which you still may be able to do, but the larger problem is inside the differential. Here is how to change the CV axle and disassemble the front differential both for full time and part time 4WD. You might eb better off with a used unit from a wrecking yard. Check out the images (below). Please upload pictures or videos in your response to the problem so we can see what's going on.
