Cruise Control will not set,

A few days ago I tried to set my cruise and it didn't work. When I set it, the light comes on saying its engaged, but when I take my foot off the gas, my car just coasts as if there was no cruise set at all. It's driving me crazy, the fuse is alright, and the components are electrical, so it's not the vacuum lines. I just can't afford to bring it in and have it looked at!

Have you had it scanned for codes yet?That's where I would start also is the cruise cable ends connected? Is the brake light switch working correctly?

Thanks for the response, but it has 2 codes. Both of which have been there for about 2 years and I don't think are relevant to my cruise control, my brake lights working, and I'm not really sure how to find the brake light switch. Under the hood it looks like all the cables are just fine. I'm really stumped

Is there any slack in the cable ends?ALso check the slack of both ends.ALso please recheck the codes and let me know the exact code numbers not code descriptions.

The exact codes are p0741, and p1860. Also they have 2 more copies codes with a "p" after meaning pending (been on for quite awhile.) the cables look good to me, and I know these codes are common paired with cadillac devilles, so I'm not sure what they mean. All of this just happened almost instantly when I revved the engine to high rpms (bad idea, I know) when entering a highway.

The is a technical service bulletin for the code P0741 says its caused by seal damage that allows the FCC apply fluid to leak into the channel plate causing excessive slippage under certain operating conditions.There is also a technical service bulletin for the code P1860 it says most likely cause is a loss of voltage to the transmission solenoid. May be caused by incorrect installation of a aftermarket electronic device such as a remote starter or alarm system.

I found the problem. It was the strip inside the cruise control module that was frayed and broken. I bought a new module from a junkyard for 35 bucks and works great! Thanks for your help!
