Crankshaft sensor

Hi,

When you say it won't start, do you mean the starter doesn't turn the engine or it does, but the engine fails to start?

Why was a crankshaft position sensor suggested?

Do me a favor. Let me know as much as you can about what is happening and if the problem started all at once. Also, take a look through these links. One is related to a starter issue and the other a crank no start. Both explain the most common causes for the problem and how to test and repair it.

Three facts to know before I start about the car has a modified air intake from its original capacity I saw it on DIY it just runs down to the bottom of the bumper and up to the box the box is modified then I started getting some wobbliness from the right front wheel so I changed the tires on the car I had a set a 17s sitting out back so that wobbling has stopped I've done some modifications so the wheels don't rub as well but that doesn't involve anything mechanical with the car just the body I had the car sitting in a bad area all night one night while I was inside an apartment and I woke up the next morning to drive the car and it had a beeping noise in the dash this beeping noise continues the entire time and still does it started bogging like it didn't want to run at that point my suspicion was that the car could have been messed with somewhere on the driver's side maybe a random hose pulled or wire pulled I don't know they could have tried to mess with the car took it home messed with the computer trying to let it reset itself and it fixed itself the next thing I know a few days after that it's driving good everything I put a bunch of miles on it one day more than I usually do ran it on the highway and I was on my way back home and all this sudden it started acting like it was bogging down like the engine was bogging down and like it started clunking and didn't want to go in the gears good it was stalling and finally I pulled it over let it rest a minute and drove it home it stopped by the time I got home but I pulled it in the driveway and park the car and got out came back down there in the car wouldn't start it would turn over and start to clunk a little bit like it wanted to start but was getting too much fuel or not enough fuel so I thought it might be the fuel pump but get this the day that I went and got the other fuel pump I came but before we left to get the fuel pump I had my people hook to the car with the truck and pull it off the side of the Hill because the car had been sitting at an angle so we pulled it up the started directly after I bought the fuel pump I didn't have to put the fuel pump on I had also tried going through computer reset motions in the dash it's just where you push this button and let the computer reset I couldn't tell if that helped I also put a charger on the battery the night before it started at that point I drove it for a few days the car started acting up again so I put the fuel pump on it continued to act up until it was to where it wouldn't start again doing the same thing acting like there was a fuel problem again I actually had to put it into manual drive in order to get it to the advance Auto so I had the test run on it and they said it was a crank position sensor I bought a crank position sensor from used parts Lambert's put it on there and it got worse only difference in two breakdowns is the first one it will act like it will want to start but wouldn't begin to clunk this time it acted like it would want to start but would start to clunk and all I could really wanted to start so at this point I'm thinking maybe it might be the battery so I go get a battery that we had around the house it turns out that I shouldn't have put it on there it was too much voltage and caused the alarm to go off in the car beeping the horn I took it off put my battery back in it turn the key back on and the gauges act a little bit weird I think the gas and a coolant hand went up both at the same time and that's the only difference that is doing now that done that to the car is that it does that little glitch where is the coolant and fuel hand jump straight up and back down and it will not even begin to turn over now the key just turns forward with the lights on computer everything looks like it's working right it just has that first little glitch and then it won't even begin to turn over so I don't know what to do...Any and all help would be greatly appreciated thank you for your time..

The best thing I can suggest at this point is this. Record what is happening so I can hear and see how it reacts. That should help me gain a better understanding and hopefully recognize a potential problem.

As far as the crank sensor, if it is bad, you will lose spark to the ignition, so it wouldn't even try to start. The starter would just turn the engine. Also, I really need to hear the clunking you are referring to. That is a bit interesting.
