Has anyone else needed a crankshaft seal replacement at only 60,000 miles on the type of car listed above that has had regular maintenance and oil changes? And does $2,300.00 sound reasonable for the replacement? I am in shock over both!

Good morning.

No, it is not common.

Are you sure of the engine size? I see a 1.8 or 2.4

The parts and labor for a 1.8 is nowhere near that amount of money.

No, I had to guess. I have never had to know that before, but I found paperwork on it now. It is a 1.8 L four cylinder DOHC Dual VVT-SFI engine. Thanks!

In one place on the paperwork they wrote "crankshaft cradle and timing cover starting to leak oil" but they verbally told me I need a new crankshaft seal. Thank you.

Okay, that is what I have given you the information on that engine. It shows the job should be around $300.00 to $400.00 for the complete job.

Okay, got it.

I would ask them to raise the car and show you. Take a picture of it and send it to us or post it on this question. I would like to see this leak to verify it.

It could be leaking from the top and running down the front of the motor from a valve cover gasket.
