Good afternoon,

If you pry it, you will break it.

Try twisting the sensor as the o-ring is what is stuck. Once the o-ring moves, then lube the sensor with WD40 or some other lube.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/crankshaft-angle-sensor-replacement

Then it will come out.

As far as the air gap, it cannot come in contact with the crankshaft.

CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR REPLACEMENT

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor connector.
3. Remove the crankshaft position sensor.
4. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Tightening torque: 7.9 - 10.7 N.m {80 - 100 kgf.cm, 69.5 - 95.4 in.lbf}

5. Inspect the air gap.

Removal & Installation (Except B2500, B3000 & B4000)

Disconnect negative battery cable. Sensor is located on front of engine, near crankshaft pulley. Remove engine undercover. Remove sensor bolts and sensor. Disconnect wiring connector. To install, replace sensor and
loosely install mounting bolts. Using a feeler gauge, adjust sensor air gap to .020 .060" (.5 1.5 mm). To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE
SPECIFICATIONS.

My car has been giving me a lot of problems. First the mechanics said oil leak. I paid 400$ and got that fixed. Then they said EGR valve..but I did not fix it and the car ran ok . The car would not start again and I got it towed and in 2 days it started back up without anything. But it died on me again. I tried to start it, it would crank but not start and after many tries it would not even crank..When I put the key in , the rpm would shoot up and down..act crazy and when i turned the key..the car would not even crank.
I took it to the service centre..he replaced the crank shaft sensor..But the car still does the same thing..The mechanic advised me to take it to the dealer as the computer will not read codes..CEL light was on before but has vanished now and the computer reads low voltage or something he said.He said only a mazda dealer can look into it. He used a really high voltage start up and got the car running till the dealership. What do I do..I dont have that kind of money.

on a 97 mazda 626 6 cylinder crank shaft positioner does it need some oil or something in the piece that goes into the engine? i put the part in put when i took the old piece out there was grease on it so i cleaned it off but now i don't know if whatever it was, was supposed to be there. because its not working, but i know that was the part tat wasnt making the car start but it still wont work and im not sure if its because i removed the grease. so just trying to see if that stuff was supposed to be there?

no, it does not have to be greased.

how do you know it is the problem?? if it has a code for it, the code never identifies a bad part, just a failed system.
