The vehicle cranks but wont start. I have replaced both cam sensor. The crankshaft sensor and battery. Per the computer I have 63psi fuel pressure. I can crank it over but wont start. Every now and then it will start for just a second, but wont stay running. I have tried starting fluid and still will not start. Timing belt was changed 20,000 miles ago. No codes in the computer. Cannot be sure about the security features. I have tried both keys and still no start. I have always said I am a pretty good mechanic, but this one is kicking my butt.

Also, I know it is not the chip in the key. I tried a non chipped key and it wont even turn over then.

Yes and it is hit and miss. When there is spark it starts right up. I have the ECM at a re-builder now having it checked.

Yes and it does not show any rpm's while cranking. Which is why I decided to have computer checked after replacing the crankshaft sensor.

It looks like its time to do a pin to pin check of the wring harness, must be a shorted/broken wiring somewhere plus you can check the power and grounds, here is a guide that will help you

Hello everyone, I realise this is an oldish post. but, I have a 2004 3.5liter V6 petrol 5 speed rodeo. I have been having an issue where the engine will crank but not start. The problem was intermittent at first but became progressively worse until the engine would not starter all. I have now worked out that the problem is either the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay. I swapped the fuel pump relay with the horn relay and the engine started . Just have to see if the problem occurs again now to test the pump. And yes the horn still works. Hope this helps.

This sounds like a fuel pump or the crankshaft angle sensor has gone out. When you turn the key to the on position without cranking the engine over can you hear the fuel pump run in the tank for 5 seconds?

Please run down this guide and report back.

Hi Ken,

No can’t hear the pump. It did the same thing yesterday so I shorted out the two large terminals for the relay and there was no difference. Also when cranking there is no fuel pressure at the valve on the left side fuel rail. I will be pulling the old pump out tomorrow and replacing with new one.

On another note, can anyone explain why I get very bad fuel economy from this engine? Roughly 6km per 1 liter. 2004 Holden Rodeo with 3.5 liter V6 petrol with 5 speed manual box.

you will need to start a new question for the Holden, if you have power to the pump but no pressure you will need to change the pump out here are the instructions. Check out the diagrams (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

Thanks Ken. I have replaced the fuel pump and the engine starts with no problem at all. By the way, I didn't take the tank out, I just undid a couple of the nuts and bolts holding the tray on and then jacked up the tray which gave me ample room to remove and replace the pump assembly.
