Shut off while driving, engine cranks but no spark

Hi,

If you are getting power to the fuel injectors, power should be available to the ignition coils as well.

If you look at pic 1, it shows how the two circuits are powered (coils and injectors). The dark green wire with a light green tracer should have power with the key on.

Please double-check if the injectors (same color wire) have power. If they don't, we need to work backward from there. If you haven't already, confirm the auto shut down relay is good and has power. Also, check the fuses in the two schematics below.

When you check the fuses, also make sure they have power to and from them.

I triple checked the ASD, and it is good. I have to get a trickle charger and get my own multimeter to confirm the fuel injectors. The only code thrown says pedal/throttle sensor may be going out.

You could have an issue with the throttle position circuit, I don't feel that would cause the no start. It could prevent throttle response, but the engine should still start.

If you have a code, let me know. Also, if you have a test light, see if it lights at the injectors. This doesn't require a multimeter unless you feel the light is too bright or too dim.

Let me know what you find. Hand in there. We'll get it running. Also, let me know how the ASD was checked.

I checked the ASD by switching the relays around, all of them work in other spots. I have to dig out the old test light, but that's a great idea.

When you switched the relays, that was a good idea. However, also make sure there is power to it.

There are 4 pins on the relay identified as 85, 86, 87, and 30. Pins 85 and 86 are the primary sides of the relay. Power transmits from pin 85 through the relay and is provided a ground path via pin 86. (Note: these two pins' power flow can be opposite as well). When this happens, there is an electromagnetic field created which draws a switch closed allowing power to fun from pin 30 through the relay and out pin 87 to the accessory being powered.

With that in mind, also check pins 30 and 85 at the ASD for power. This must be done with the key on.

I found my light, I figured out where my short is, but I don't know how to get the valve cover off to fix the short. I'm attaching pics, the one where I'm holding the test light, you can see the very dim glow.

To remove the valve covers, you first need to remove the upper intake manifold. It isn't hard, but just one more step in the procedure.

If you look below, first I provided the directions for the removal and installation of the manifold. The second set of directions is for the valve cover.

I assume there is a pinched wire. Is that correct?

Please forgive my nativity, I'm not exactly mechanically inclined. The intake manifold is where the issue is, the dim light is on the MAP sensor. was given the idea of taking the breather off and spraying starter fluid directly into the intake. That way i can see if it tries to turn over.

No problem whatsoever. To try starting fluid, you should spray it into the throttle body. It may be tough to do it through a vacuum hose.
