Engine will not crank after replacing the timing belt?

Vehicle ran fine. drove to store and timing belt broke, fixed that but still no crank. found out when belt broke it bent valve stems. Replaced all 8 and compressioned them. firing order is 1 2 4 3. set distributor rotor on number 1. finally cranked but ran rough and missing then shut off. repeated the distributor and timing but now wont crank at all. please help.

If it will not crank after this then we need to turn the motor by hand and make sure it is not locked up. If you bent the valves then we could have metal in the engine and it locked up.

Do you hear a click from the starter when trying to start it? If not then we need to look into a starter issue as well.

Let's start with this and go from there. Clearly if the motor is locked up then that solves it but we don't want to get into this if it is. Thanks

I put a brand new starter on it and I turned the motor to get piston on top.

Okay. So when you turn the key to start the engine, do you hear a click like the starter is trying to turn? Or does it not do anything?

We are going to have to check voltage at the starter to find out if you have a possible transmission range sensor.

Let's clarify this and find out what voltage you have on both wires when cranking the engine.
