Crank pulley not going back on

Hello,

A couple of things to remember when doing the crankshaft pulley on this vehicle, first it does require special tools to properly get the task completed. Also, you cannot reuse the crankshaft pulley bolt, reusing the old one will not tighten the pulley properly.

I have attached the replacement procedure below. Take a look at it and see if you might have missed something.

Sean, the oil pump ring inside the cover isn't splining onto the pulley. It's like the ring is too small for the pulley shaft to align onto the crank. I have it at TDC. The alignment hole on the pulley is in line with the timing mark on the cover. The timing cover and the pulley are both 2013 Chevy Cruze parts. Is there a possibility there are two different size pulleys or oil pump rings?

For the 1.4L there is just one size pulley. So does the pulley actually start to go and stops after a little bit or does it not go on at all?

It will start onto the oil pump ring but won't spline all the way allowing it to go onto the actual crankshaft. I researched and found out the is a first design and a second design pulley.

To find out what design your vehicle might have, you will need to call your local Chevyrolet dealer and provide them with the VIN. They should be able to let you know which one you have.

It had the original timing cover, but I had to replace it with a new one and it says it's a second design timing cover.

That might explain it. Alldata does not show any design deference for that vehicle, just shows one part number.
