I drove the car last night parked it and this morning went to start acted like it was going to twice and then would shut off a second later. Noticed no lights on dash except for battery oil and airbag. The digital display that is normally there does not come on and which is what controls a lot of things. I have pulled every fuse out checked and replaced. security system recognizes key and will crank but no fuel in fuel rail. What would be my next step?

Good morning,

Can you hear the fuel pump run when you turn the key on?

I would do a fuel pressure test to see if the pump has failed.

The pump is not turning on and I'm thinking cause of the display it gives miles to empty and all the warnings to the car. Also the lights on dash wont turn on.

Okay, I would start by load testing the battery and cleaning the cables to be sure sufficient voltage is getting to the car.

I attached a wiring diagram of the system. There is a power relay in the fuse block under the hood that provides power to all the accessories. You need to verify voltage to the relay to see if it is working.

Did you verify power to the fuel pump?

No way to test power to fuel pump, but no sound from kicking on and off. I am calling around the digital display that is not coming on is the message center it is wired into all light and warnings. we are thinking the computer had failed.

It is possible but an expense guess.

You need to get a volt meter or test light to do some checks so you can be sure what you are replacing is the failure.

Okay, my dad pulled it apart I have power to inertia switch to fuel pump module nothing after that. it's supposed to have power to white with red and ground is black with yellow but no power there. I can't see the diagrams very well about the yellow with something that goes to fuel pump then virtual dash. is there a way to test if module is bad or if I can put power past it to see if I can get fuel pump to run so I know where to start?

Yes, you can run direct battery power to the pump and see if it runs. If it does then the module is the issue. If it does not, then the pump is the failure.

Why did you change the PCM?

Did you have t flashed to your VIN? Without that being done, it will not work.

Did you check for voltages at the plug as I suggested?

I jumped fuel pump out and it ran and wouldn't start, so i bought fuel module and it still is the same. nothing changed and the PCM does it have to be flashed even off identical car? With electrical i am at a loss with all the electrical in the car.

You need a voltmeter for further testing.

I have one in car we have tested to see if power to fuel module. Here is where i am stuck at there is a digital display that is in dash and it stopped working sane time from the wiring diagram above i see that it goes through the fuel pump module for power and its not getting it to work which is yellow/white wire so i am stuck with that it has to do with that not working cause as of right now with fuel pump kicked on will not start.

Are you saying the fuel pump is now running?

If it is, can you test the pressure?

We jumped the fuel pump out so it had power and tried to start car we did not check pressure because the fuel module was not allowing the power to the fuel pump in the first place so i replaced thinking maybe it was fried and was not allowing power to get to fuel pump and now that is not the case we was thinking PCM or something along those lines cause the digital display and the module not getting power to turn pump on this weekend i am going to see if it is giving spark now because before when i tried right after this problem started it ran for couple seconds now it wont even do that. i am trying to find a diagram of everything that is tied into the fuel/display that stopped working so far all i see is that module in fuel system but has to be further tied in.

so as far as control modules what are the list of them i tried to zoom in on wiring diagram and it gets to blurry to read is there just a PCM? or is there multiple ones that control fuel and spark ?

Was a guess cause it is not turning on fuel module and that was the next thing in line if not going through there it will never turn on the fuel pump. does the PCM have to be flashed to VIN if pulled from another Lincoln Continental with exact options as mine? this is the first time replacing a computer normally i would sell vehicle and find another but not currently in the situation of doing that.

Yes, it does. It will not turn over with a used unit. It needs to be flashed to your VIN number.

Okay, so i guess I will try to use old one until i can get flashed. but any suggestions on where to start? because not only did i lose fuel from the module i am pretty sure i have lost spark and not sure what would cause it to loose both. when i drove it the night before those all happened.

You need a working PCM before you can start with the checks.

The old one will not work now since you put another in the car.

Okay, so i have played around with the car today. i am am leaning towards the PCM was bad from the start before swapping. so far i can get it to run with starting fluid. it has no fuel in rail. i jumped it out and has 12 volts on the injectors. but not sure on how to make sure they are firing. i am looking for a place to buy a PCM or reprogram one that i pulled not the original. I am at a loss of what my next step will be after i get a new one or reprogrammed. i will keep you posted after.

You can get one from rockauto.com.

As far as programming, you need a shop that has the equipment to perform this operation. The last resort is the dealer who will charge you a lot of money.
