Crank issues and will not start

Okay. We need to get a little more info to figure this out because it could be a number of things. First does the theft system turn off when you turn the key to the on position?

Next we need to check for codes. If the check engine light was flashing then there are most likely stored codes that will point us in the right direction.

Lastly I attached the wiring diagram for us to test voltage at the starter and then depending on what we find we can go backwards in the system to find where the voltage is. As long as the theft system is not active then we have a component issue and we can find that by doing this. Hopefully there is a code that will take us right to it but if not we can still find it.

Okay. That is good to know. You should have a theft light on the dash and if it goes out when you turn the key on after about 3 seconds. If it does then it passes the self test and authorizes the start. If it does then then we can confirm it is not a theft issue as you suspect. Thanks

So here we go. I took the truck to AutoZone and got the code pulled. Only one showed up and it's code P0463 indicates that the Fuel Level Sensor 'A' electrical circuit inout signal had high voltage for a predetermined periods of time."

Okay. That is not going to cause a this issue so at this point we need suspect a possible ignition switch issue. The fact that you turn the key numerous times and then it starts is an indicator that the PCM is not seeing the key turn to the crank position. So we need a scan tool to do this. Unfortunately we need to see what the PCM is seeing as the key turns. Basically it says whether or not it sees the key turn to the crank position and if it doesn't then that is our issue.

I understand you may not have a scan tool to do this but is there anyone that you know that may have one?

Yes sir. My neighbor has one and will use it today after i get off work. Lets see how it goes.

We have to keep all communications on this site so that when others have the same issue they are able to follow along.

Unfortunately we need an actual scan tool that can monitor live data and not just pull codes. So we need to look at the PCM data for the ignition switch and as you turn the key it should correlate with what position the key it in. I suspect that the PCM will not see it go to the crank position which means the ignition switch is most likely faulty. However, we can try to find this by checking voltage at a couple of locations that I circled in the wiring diagram attached. If you have voltage at both these locations then the ignition switch is not the issue.
