crank and cam timing, no marks on cam sprockets

I have those same images but there are no marks on the gears and the crank has that mark on the block but nothing on the gear teeth that i was told existed. i have no trouble finding TDC and all that, i have built many engines of different types but i have never failed to have a guide as timing marks etc., i read one report that there are timing marks on the back end of the cams but did not say how they were disfigured and how to read them. The controversy about which cylinder the timing begins i have never found an engine that did not start the timing on number one cylinder if it is different than number one maybe that is why i cannot find marks on the crank gear. I really appreciate you getting back to me and if you can shed some light on the issues i have stated it would be great. Thanks a lot, Ron

Can you take a picture of gears and post them on here? Also, clean the cam gears as well to see. The crank gear will most likely have the cut out in back of the gear that will look like a "V" if one cut out that lines with the pump. If two cut outs then pump lines in between both.

If you lost the cam and crank timing from a broken belt then stop what your doing and pull the head to replace some bent valves. But if you still need to set up the timing then you will need to buy the cam and crank lock tool.

I pulled the head because of a blown head gasket and i made a cam locking tool, but i will check the back of the gears for any marks, i read that there is some type of mark on the rear of the cam but i don't know what to look for there. thanks a lot for getting back to me i'll look for that mark you mentioned. ron

The bacl of the cam slots would need to line up like the immage. That is how the tool works to line up. Hope this will help you out more.

Is it the same for both cams, and that is the rear of the cam by the firewall if i understand correctly. thanks a lot this looks like it will work. ron

one last question the manual i have says timing 16 degrees and on the cover on top the cams it shows timing marks from 0 to 25 can you tell me how to deal with that. thanks ron

As long the timing is lined up correctly you shoild be fine. The computer controls the timing.
