Just learned I've got a cracked flex plate. My question is, how long can the car be driven before repairs? Also, what are some risks I'm taking if I continue to drive without fixing?

Good morning,

If it is cracked it needs to be repaired as soon as possible.

Waiting will put you in a situation that it may break and leave you stranded and more damage could result from it breaking.

How did they determine the flywheel was cracked?

Took car in for an oil change and asked them to check transmission fluid because I was hearing a loud sound that reminded me of exhaust coming from front end of car. The guy working down in pit said the fluid was okay and then something on the lines of a crack in exhaust by flex plate. Or crack in flex plate by exhaust.

Got it.

The flex plate connects the engine to the transmission. It cannot be seen without removing covers and inspecting. I doubt an oil change place can do this and make a determination.

The exhaust sounds more likely which is not related. If it is a exhaust leak, you can drive it until you get it repaired but it will make s lot of noise.

You need someone to pinpoint the exact leak from the exhaust. Once you know that, then get back to me and we can discuss it further.

I believe that it's more than just the exhaust. The car doesn't shift as well as it used to and using more rpm's before shifting than it used to. I'm fearing transmission problems because the car isn't even worth what is left to pay on it.

Trying to get into a shop to get it checked out this morning. I'll let you know what we find.

Sounds like a plan.
