Had a coolant leak and changed the temperature sensor housing. Thinking all problems were solved but now coolant is leaking even more. Coming from about middle of engine in rear. In the video you can see the new housing in the top of the frame. But what is that stalagmite of coolant hanging? About right under exhaust manifold.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

If it is in the rear of the engine, did you replace the coolant flange? Is that where you replaced the sensor? See picture below.

If that is what was replaced, did you replace the o-ring on the sensor? When you replaced the clip that holds the sensor in place, was there excessive play in the sensor?

You should pressure test the system to see exactly where the leak is located. I will tell you that if you did not replace the o-ring, that could be the problem. Here is a link that shows how to pressure test the system:

As far as what you are seeing, that is dried out coolant.

Let me know,

Yes, that has all been replaced and confirmed that it is not leaking. I replaced the sensor with a new o-ring and clip. Also the replaced housing with a new o-ring as well. The plastic piece that the temperature sensor sits in.

Welcome back.

If that has been replaced, then you need to pressure test the system. Take a look at the link I attached above. You will need a pressure tester, but most parts stores will lend or rent one to you. Once you pressurize the system, you should be able to see where it is coming from.

I hope it is not coming from the head gasket. Do this test and let me know what you find.

Funny, but I just got home from work two hours ago. The last job of the day was to replace another coolant flange. This time on a beetle. Ugh. Nothing would stop a leak at the sensor.

Let me know,
Joe
